It can come up among clients occasionally, but in my experience it's other mixers doing the convincing, which causes producers to start using brand names as benchmarks of if you're good or not. Props to deity and their team I've become a big fan and will be trying out the s mic 2s and whatever other shotguns come out in that s mic family. But the s mic 2 is a hidden gem in my opinion and a high quality mic in the price range where you usually find mics not worthy enough for professional production sound. I still prefer a lectro system to the connect of course. How did deity do it? I own their connect system and even that to me doesn't perform so above it's price range that it makes my head turn. But a $380 mic competing with a $999 mic to me is crazy. It completely flipped my head cause before this, I was strictly a guy who though professional meant expensive and bought as expensive as I always could because I wanted a professional sound for my clients. After some testing I found that the self noise was on par with the 416 and ntg3, it had a slightly wider pick up pattern than the 416 (which I prefer because I'm bag and boom most of the time), and I preferred it tonally over the 416 and ntg3. But shortly after due to my idiotic senses, broke my ntg3 and brought out the s mic 2 for a gig. So I basically thought what the hell it's a good backup for the ntg3. I've used mics much more expensive and had a ton of experience with the mic it's modeled after, the mkh 416. I received a deity a mic 2 back in January for free and at first I had 0 expectations. r/FilmMakers /r/VideoProduction /r/Videography /r/Editors /r/Freelance /r/ProduceMyScript r/AudioPost /r/GameAudio /r/FieldRecording /r/RateMyAudio /r/ProTools /r/Music See the tips list for projects with no/low sound budgets available HEREĭan Brockett Lavalier Comparison Description of Shotgun Mic design Shotgun Mic Shootout - Database of microphonesĪES - Audio Engineering Society CAS - Cinema Audio Society IMDB - Internet Movie Database FCC - Federal Communications Commisssion Related SubReddits Need to find manuals quickly?
